This Browning Camping Big Horn Family/Hunting Tent is an 8 person tent and it’s 10 x 15 feet in size which has a divider wall inside. The height of the tent is 87 inches which can make it comfortable for tall people and the sides are almost vertical which gives the height benefit all around. The tent is made of polyester and is brown and beige with yellow accents. It’s a free standing tent with a rainfly which has guy lines attached.
The tent can take around 20 minutes to assemble the first time and quicker after that. It goes easier with 2 people but can be done with 1. You have to feed the rods into the roof part first and attach to the angle bracket. Be aware there is a small hole and larger hole in the angled piece so you need to keep the large hole free for the uprights. Fit the upright poles into the angle bracket and onto the fitting on the base, there are clips on the tent to attach it to the poles. The rainfly fits over the top and attaches to anchor points on the base with ties to attach to the main poles. There is a small rod inside the rainfly to bring the canopy out over the door and guy lines to secure.
The rainfly helps with it being waterproof on the outside, internally there is a bucket floor made from 150D polyester with 2000mm coating, with all seams stitched internally as further waterproofing. The guy ropes on the fly hold it out to protect the windows from the rain so that you can leave them open a bit in bad weather too.
The Browning Camping Big Horn Family/Hunting Tent is an 8-person and could probably fit 8 people in lying side by side, 4 in each room but you would be more likely to use it for 4-5 people comfortably with space for other things.
The tent has 2 doors, 1 in each room so you don’t have to climb over people to get outside and six windows. Both the doors and windows have zip down covers so that you can get plenty of air in the tent with mesh panels to keep the bugs out. The whole roof area is also meshed so in good weather you can keep it open for full ventilation or even just cover half the tent with the fly and roll back the other half to benefit from some shade if it’s very sunny overhead.
The Browning tent has mesh bags on either side of the internal wall so you can store small items and you can zip the internal wall up in the middle so that you can get ventilation all the way through from all the windows and doors.
The floor is quite thick but it’s always worth using a tarp as protection against punctures, it doesn’t take too much carrying and is easy to lay down and peg before putting up the tent and it might help to keep your tent going for longer. The tent pegs included are standard sized so if you want to make sure you have staked your tent as well as possible you might want to invest in some heavy-duty pegs which are longer in length and might give you a bit more peace of mind in windy weather.
It’s quite easy to take the Browning Camping tent down, remove the fly, then all of of the poles and pegs out and you have a flat tent ready to fold up. Make sure the doors are unzipped so you have a way for the air to escape when you fold. You have a long bag and most people have found it easy enough to get the tent back in.
Customer Opinion
With 72% 5 star reviews customers are enjoying using this Browning tent. Some customers who have had some issues had great customer service from Browning with replacement parts sent. People found it to be watertight with enough space to fit 6 people comfortably and they liked the fact that the zipped divider can give some privacy when needed.
Some customers felt that the quality of the tent was not good enough for the price paid and some felt that the floor wasn’t thick enough to withstand tears. Some people had problems with the poles bending in strong wind.
Verdict
The Browning Camping Big Horn Family/Hunting Tent gives you a very large open tent with lots of head room and floor space to make your camping trip enjoyable without being cramped. It doesn’t take too long to get set up, which is always a plus, and means you have more time to do other things. The Browning name is well respected and the price isn’t extortionate either.
