This Coleman Tenaya Lake Fast Pitch Cabin Tent is a polyester tent made with the WeatherTec system so that it has inverted seams to stop the rain getting inside and the welded bucket floor to keep the tent dry. This family tent only comes in one colour which is predominantly blue with a white rainfly and yellow rainfly protectors on the doors and windows. It is a good oblong shape with floorspace of 13 x 9 feet which can easily fit 2 queen size mattresses with space to spare. It’s very high in the centre so you can easily stand up inside.
This is meant to be an 8 person tent but like all tent sizing you can take that with a pinch of salt. You will probably fit 4-5 comfortably and still get your bags inside. It’s not a light tent to carry so wouldn’t be suitable to carry around for backpacking but it fits in a bag with a solid base that has 2 wheels which makes it easy to pull it from you car to wherever you are camping.
It says you can assemble this Coleman Tenaya in about 9 minutes because it’s a fast pitch but that might only be possible if 2 of you are doing it and you know what you’re doing. 15-20 minutes seems more reasonable. It is very straight forward to assemble though. If you lay out the tent in the direction you want it to face and peg the corners. Insert the top centre poles and attach the hooks to hold them in place. Then you can go around and add the upright poles to the top poles, you might find it easier to manoeuvre if you take out the peg of the corner that your working on and then re-peg it after the post is secure in the housing. The main upright poles are very sturdy and should withstand some weather. The rainfly sits over the top and secures to a ring on the centre pole.
The guy lines are made of a reflective rope so that you can easily see them in the dark reducing potential accidents.
This Coleman Tenaya Lake Fast Pitch Cabin Tent comes with plenty of windows which have netting so that you can stay bug free while allowing light and air around the tent. The windows have a zip up cover in case of bad weather. There are 4 skylight netted areas in the top of the tent which give good ventilation and a great starlight view if the weather is good and you don’t need a rain cover. You also get a storage closet built into the rear of the tent which has a hanging pole and shelves so you can have a bit of storage space without it taking away from the sleeping area. If you like the idea of closing off your sleeping are there is a room divider for privacy inside too.
The hinged door has a pole around it to make it a little more substantial. It seals closed with a zip but has velcro fasteners so that if the kids are running in and out it will fall shut and hold there. It has mesh on the top half so you can open it up and let the air and more light in. On the walls of this Cabin Tent there are also mesh bags for storing small bits like your phone or a torch.
Most people have found the Coleman Tenaya Lake Fast Pitch Cabin Tent waterproof but many have used seam sealer on all the seams for added protection. It’s probably going to depend on the strength of the downpour. Most people use an extra tarp underneath the tent even though the bottom is made of tarp like material just for the extra protection it affords against tears and they usually invest in stronger tent pegs just because the standard pegs aren’t brilliant.
It’s relatively easy to take down and pack up into the bag for future use and can fit easily into the back of a car. All in all a spacious, easy to assemble 3 season cabin tent to see you through some fun camping trips.
Most people love the spaciousness of this tent and the airiness of the mesh roof and windows. They find that they can assemble it easily and they like the hinged door. They like the closet as an out of the way storage area. Many customers have found the tent to be waterproof and strong enough to withstand storms.
The downsides found on this tent is that the tension caused by the tight fit of the poles has caused rips in the tent. Some people had problems with wind causing bends in the poles or breaking them. The hinged door is good but it can blow inwards if the wind is strong enough and if it isn’t zipped up.
If you’re looking for a family tent that is comfortable to stay in then you will like the Coleman Tenaya Lake Fast Pitch Cabin Tent. You have the separate bedroom area and enough space for another double mattress or some singles. With the closet attached you have an added area of storage that frees up floor space. This is a well ventilated tent that can keep you cool in the warmer weather and it keeps condensation down. All the windows around the tent can be closed to protect from wet weather or cold winds. I’m sure you will have many happy times using this Tenaya Lake tent.
