The Coleman 8-Person Instant Tent is made of good quality 150D material. 150 denier material is very water resistant and is usually used in areas of heavy use. This makes it resistant to tears and it lasts longer under UV exposure. This tent also comes in 3 colours brown, blue and black. There is a good sized floorspace of 14 x 10 feet and you can easily fit in 2 queen size airbeds with space to move around them and it’s high enough that you can stand up easily making it comfortable to be in.
This Instant tent is very quick to assemble for a large tent. They do say it can be done in minute but I think most people take a little bit more than that, maybe up to 5 minutes. Who can complain at that? The speed comes from the fact that all the posts are already attached to the tent. You take it from the bag, stand it on edge and pull down the sides. Bend all the elbow joints on the poles up at right angles so it looks like a mini tent, you will bend them down when taking down the tent. All the poles are telescopic so extend the top poles and they will click into place then start extending the upright poles and this should give you a fully assembled tent. You will still need to secure the guy ropes but then you will be good to go.
Although there is no rainfly with this Coleman 8-Person Instant Tent most people have found it to be weatherproof but if you feel more comfortable having a cover on the tent you can buy a rainfly
to fit on Amazon.com. There are windows on all sides of the tent and there are air vents in the roof so you can get some good ventilation in there. At the front of this family tent the windows go all the way down almost to the floor and the covers can be zipped down. The door opens down the middle and across the bottom and can be folded back and tied so you can walk in and out easily or zipped closed and the covers zipped down to give you an open bug free area to sit in. There is a zipped divider so you can make it into 2 rooms and there is also a back door.
This is an 8 person tent but like most tents if you take half the number that will give the the number of people that can use the tent in comfort. Depending on the size of the adults and if you are housing children it might mean you can get more in, it really depends if you want to be able to have a bit of space to move around in.
For extra protection of the base of the tent most people use a tarp to give a double layer against anything sharp edged under the tent and it gives an extra layer against water.
When you’re holiday is over getting the tent back into the bag is always a worry but this one is as easy to put away as it is to put up. Once the guide ropes are released you just have to press the buttons on the poles to let them slide back inside themselves and then when you have done them all fold down the elbow joint so the poles are pointing up. Tie around the top of the tent to hold everything together then lie it down so you can straighten the material in the tent then roll it up and tie it around the middle of the tent. It should now be able to fit in the bag.
Customer Opinion
People find the quick setup and the fact that you can open the windows down on one side so its like a porch is the best things about this tent. They find that it has enough room to be comfortable and stands up to rain and wind. Many buyers have been using their tent multiple times and have not found problems although most people invested in heavy duty pegs to hold it down.
Some of the downsides customers have found on this tent is that they have problems with the tent poles sticking when opening them up or when closing them after use. Some people have found this leads to bent or broken poles. Some people have found that the design of the tent leads it to let in water through the door areas when you are using them and people have found the floor to be waterproof but leaking in through the roof or windows.
Verdict
If you like the idea of being able to go camping and to put up your tent in a few minutes then you will love the Coleman 8-Person Instant Tent. It gives you plenty of space for sleeping with some left over to store your things or just to be able to move around. The tent is easy enough to put up even if you’re a beginner. It’s a bit more expensive than other models but well worth it.
